The Energy Guardian® Kits for Pull Down Ladders
ESS has 3 different kits that fit virtually over any pull down ladder that is spring based and folding. Note: Other specialty ladders- including Folding with counterweights and One-piece ladders that slide up into the attic. Call technical support at 1-877-377-4674 as you will need a non standard configuration.
For attics that are trussed, ESS makes the truss pull down kit. For attics that have open area, ESS makes two kits for various sized ladders- standard pull down kit or wide pull down kit.
Each kit has an R-30 insulating value, revolutionary air seal and 20 year warranty. The kit is comprised of a lid and frame. The revolutionary air seal is formed when the lid fits into the frame. The lid weighs approximately 10 lb. and the frame is less than 5 lb. Both can be moved when entering the attic.
You need to make a few measurements and note some things to make certain that you order the proper kit for your home.
Pull Down Ladder Between Support Trusses
These are most common in new construction. The support trusses are 2x4 boards that extend from the floor joists to the ceiling throughout the attic. They are also typically located on each long side of the opening for the ladder, leaving a narrow entryway.
For a Trussed Attic, take the following measurements:
A) Height of ladder above floor
B) Length and width of opening
C) Measure hinges outside to outside
If you have a trussed attic and A) is less than 7½ inches, B) is equal to or less than 22½ x 60 inches and C) is less than 20 inches, then you need a pull down truss kit

B) Hinge outside to outside
C) Width and length of opening
If A) is less than 7½ inches, B) is less than or equal to 25 inches and C) is 34 x 62 inches or less, then you need a standard pull down kit
